Low Lounge Chair

Solid Walnut & Woven Saddle Leather

The piece

An architectural study in structural tension and low-profile ergonomics. Defined by its reclined stance and grounded stance, the piece pairs an austere, hand-shaped solid walnut frame with a graphic grid of woven black leather straps. Each band is finished with precision edge-stitching, bridging the disciplines of raw cabinetmaking and refined saddlery. Liberated from domestic nostalgia, the chair commands space through bold material contrast, tactile permanence, and disciplined geometry

Key Features (Material & Structural Specifications)

  • Structural Geometry: Solid walnut joinery sculpted into a low, reclined silhouette with arched rear legs, balancing structural weight with disciplined visual lines.

  • Tactile Saddle Weave: Heavyweight black leather straps hand-interwoven in a continuous basket weave, engineered to conform gently under weight while maintaining structural tension.

  • Saddlery Detailing: Contrasting tonal edge-stitching along every leather band, highlighting the meticulous hand-assembly and artisan craft.

  • Material Duality: The warm, organic grain of solid walnut directly juxtaposed against the matte, graphic density of dressed hide

Deep natural walnut, matte black leather with contrasting light stitching.
Care

Dust the timber and leather straps regularly with a clean, dry, lint-free microfiber cloth. For localized cleaning, wipe leather gently with a soft cloth lightly dampened with lukewarm water and dry immediately. Never use abrasive sponges, chemical solvents, ammonia, or silicone sprays. Nourish the leather straps periodically with a specialized, wax-free neutral leather balm to maintain suppleness and prevent cracking. The solid walnut is protected with a matte stabilizing coat; do not apply aggressive furniture oils or commercial polishes. Intended strictly for indoor, climate-controlled spaces; shield from direct heat sources and prolonged direct sunlight to prevent timber movement and leather desiccation.

Design

Fatallah Benaouidat

Franco-Moroccan designer

His pieces are not reproduced. They are handed down.

Fatallah Benaouidat draws in France. His pieces take shape in Morocco. Between the two shores, a conversation that has never fallen silent.

From modern art he keeps the line that is enough. From literature, the weight of every word. And from the houses of the land of his roots, a silence he slips into every piece, one that turns an object into a work.

Each drawing then travels to seven artisans, from one end of Morocco to the other, keepers of gestures older than he is. He gives the form. They give it weight, grain, light: what no drawing can do.

The artisans

Seven artisans, across Morocco.

Casarin works with a close circle of seven master artisans, each devoted to one material and one gesture. Lime, earth, glaze, wood, leather and glass: every piece passes through their hands, at their pace.
