Capsule I02Collectible piece
Sculptural Monolithic Stool
Ebonized Hand-Carved Timber
The piece
Carved from a single mass of dense timber, this piece explores the tension between brutalist geometry and intricate negative space. The cylindrical silhouette is anchored by a solid, softly rounded top and base, framing an openwork lattice body punctuated by hand-chiseled nodes. Finished in a deep, matte ebonized patina, the surface balances tactile roughness within the openwork against the quiet, satiny plane of the seat. Conceived as an architectural pedestal or low sculptural anchor, it commands presence through shadow play, mass, and material permanence.
Key Features (Material & Structural Specifications)
-
Monolithic Carving: Hollowed and sculpted from a single solid timber block, preserving structural integrity without mechanical joints.
-
Intricate Lattice Geometry: A hand-chiseled openwork lattice featuring projecting nodal points, creating a dynamic interplay of depth, light, and shadow.
-
Tactile Surface Interplay: A subtle contrast between the smooth, hand-burnished circular top and the raw, textural carving of the central cage.
-
Matte Ebonized Finish: Saturated in deep carbon black, highlighting the sculptural form while subduing the timber's grain into a quiet, monolithic presence.
Dimensions & materials
- Materials
- Solid natural timber, carbon ebonizing pigment, matte protective seal.
- Finish
- Deep carbon black, matte ebonized wood.
Care
Dust regularly using a dry, soft microfiber cloth or a soft-bristled brush to gently clean between the carved lattice openings. For spot maintenance, wipe the surface lightly with a cloth barely dampened with lukewarm water and dry immediately. Strictly avoid chemical sprays, abrasive pads, natural oils, or wax-based polishes, as these will saturate the ebonized pores and alter the matte carbon finish. Intended solely for climate-controlled indoor spaces; keep away from heating elements, radiators, and harsh direct sunlight to avoid timber movement and thermal cracking.

Design
Fatallah Benaouidat
Franco-Moroccan designer
His pieces are not reproduced. They are handed down.
Fatallah Benaouidat draws in France. His pieces take shape in Morocco. Between the two shores, a conversation that has never fallen silent.
From modern art he keeps the line that is enough. From literature, the weight of every word. And from the houses of the land of his roots, a silence he slips into every piece, one that turns an object into a work.
Each drawing then travels to seven artisans, from one end of Morocco to the other, keepers of gestures older than he is. He gives the form. They give it weight, grain, light: what no drawing can do.
The artisans
Seven artisans, across Morocco.
Casarin works with a close circle of seven master artisans, each devoted to one material and one gesture. Lime, earth, glaze, wood, leather and glass: every piece passes through their hands, at their pace.
